Greater High Point Food Alliance

Mission

GHPFA will strive to coordinate and improve the effectiveness of entities in Greater High Point focused on alleviating hunger by creating and executing citywide and neighborhood-focused initiatives to develop more just and sustainable food systems.

Vision

GHPFA will create just and sustainable supplemental food systems for Greater High Point by fostering unity, developing responsibility, and empowering communities.

Strategy

From the very beginning, it was recognized by the GHPFA that to alleviate hunger in our community, three things had to take place:

  1. First, by empowering the community to seek solutions, we empower people to speak up and develop solutions for their neighborhoods. Often the best ideas come from those that are closest to the problem. Empowerment also comes through education so folks can make the best choices for themselves and their families.
  2. Second, the community must be unified to address the issue best. One of the goals of the GHPFA is to bring people together to discuss the issue and formulate a plan. The greatest resources of our community are our neighbors.
  3. Finally, the goal of the GHPFA is to move from a charity model to a developmental model where community members become responsible for themselves and eventually become self-sustaining, which requires effort and commitment from both individuals and systems.
